J-1 Intern Eligibility Requirements

The Intern category may be suitable if you:

  • Are currently enrolled in and pursuing a degree or certificate at a post-secondary academic institution outside the United States.
  • Graduated from such an institution no more than 12 months before the start of your J-1 Intern program.
  • For Yummy Jobs hospitality opportunities, your studies must also be relevant to the training offered, such as Hospitality, Tourism, Culinary Arts or another applicable field.

J-1 Trainee Eligibility Requirements

The Trainee category may be suitable if you:

  • Hold a degree or professional certificate from a post-secondary academic institution outside the United States and have at least one year of related professional experience gained outside the United States.
  • Have at least five years of professional experience outside the United States in the occupational field in which you are seeking training.

Your previous education and/or professional experience must relate to the proposed training program.

  • Meet the minimum age requirement for the specific opportunity.
  • Demonstrate sufficient English-language ability to participate successfully in the program.
