VISA PROCESS & TIMELINE

What the J-1 Summer Work & Travel Visa Is
The J-1 Summer Work & Travel visa allows international students to work and gain cultural experience in the U.S. over the summer. It’s specifically for students who want to combine professional experience with the chance to explore American culture.

Included as Part of the Program
Your visa sponsorship is obtained through our trusted visa sponsor and is included in the program fee.

How the Process Works

  1. Complete your visa portal – After you have accepted your place on the program, you’ll receive access to a secure portal with your visa sponsor. Here you’ll submit your application and upload required documents.

  2. Documents Provided – You’ll be given everything you need to complete your application, including the DS-2019 form, instructions for supporting documents, and guidance on timing.

  3. Book a U.S. Embassy Appointment*– Once your visa sponsor portal is accepted, you’ll schedule an interview at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your country.

  4. Attend the U.S. Embassy Appointment* – Bring your documents, passport, and DS-2019 form. The interview is usually quick, and once approved, your visa will be issued so you can travel to the U.S.

*Participants with a Canadian passport are not currently required to attend a US Embassy Appointment, and do not need to complete these steps.

International Students
Students from any country are welcome to join, provided they are enrolled in a university in the UK, Canada, or Mexico. You will be required to show proof of residency in your country of study.

Timeline
For this program, all visa documentation is typically issued in March, provided students have completed their onboarding documentation by the specified deadlines (provided upon acceptance of place on program). US Embassy Appointments are typically between April – Mid-May.
